Privacy policy
Your recordings
stay on your device.
Effective 10 October 2026
Show Along does not upload recordings unless you connect a cloud folder and choose to, does not require a Show Along account, and has no advertising trackers. It sends anonymous usage counts only if you turn that on in Settings, and it never sends your recordings.
What the extension handles
Show Along captures the Chrome tab you select in Chrome’s sharing dialog, together with shared audio when provided by Chrome and microphone audio when you enable it. This content may include personal or sensitive information visible or audible in the source you choose.
If you turn on the webcam, it is recorded as a separate track on your device and is added to the video only when you export from the editor. The extension processes this content on your device to create a video. It does not send recordings, audio, or video content to the developer or a remote server. The developer does not receive your recordings through the extension.
Permissions and your choices
- Screen sharing: Chrome prompts you to choose a source when you start a recording.
- Microphone: If enabled, the extension requests microphone access so your voice can be included.
- Storage: The extension uses Chrome’s storage permission to remember your recording settings.
- Background checks: A Chrome alarm refreshes feature settings every few hours.
-
One network address: The extension may contact
eu.i.posthog.comfor feature settings and, only if you opt in, anonymous usage counts. See “Feature settings and optional usage statistics” below.
The extension has no host access to the websites you visit and no website content scripts, and it does not collect browsing history in the background. Its only host permission is the PostHog address above. Recording begins when you start it and ends when you stop recording or end screen sharing.
Local storage and deletion
Recording metadata and video chunks are saved in IndexedDB within the extension’s storage in your Chrome profile. Recording settings are saved using Chrome’s local storage API. Encoded chunks are also held in memory during recording to support a download fallback if storage fails.
Browser-stored recordings remain until you delete them or the browser removes the data. Uninstalling the extension, clearing its data, storage eviction, or device failure can remove recordings. Download important videos for safekeeping.
Use Delete in the recording history to remove a browser-stored recording. Downloaded files are separate copies and must be deleted from your device separately. Recordings are not encrypted by the extension; anyone with access to your Chrome profile may be able to access them.
Optional diagnostics and cloud folders
Show Along also offers features you turn on yourself. Console and network diagnostics, when enabled, capture page details for the tab you are recording while you record. If you choose the whole-window option with full page details and all tabs, they cover every tab in that window instead. They and stay with that recording until you export it. Authorization headers and tokens are masked automatically, and you can review and mask other details before export.
Cross Device lets you connect one Google Drive or OneDrive folder and upload recordings you choose. Nothing is uploaded unless you connect a folder and select a recording. Uploaded copies are handled by that provider under its own terms and privacy policy and follow your sharing settings there.
Feature settings and optional usage statistics
Feature settings. The extension asks PostHog (EU cloud) which features are switched on, so features can be turned on or off without a new release. This request carries only a random install ID, created on your device, and the extension version. It happens even if you have not opted in to usage statistics. The extension saves the last answer and works offline without it.
Usage statistics (off by default). In Settings you can turn on “Share anonymous usage”. If you do, the extension sends event names and counts, such as “recording started”, with the mode, length and number of steps. It never sends your recordings, screenshots, page addresses or titles, click labels, console or network content, or file names. PostHog is set to anonymise IP addresses. You can turn this off at any time.
Feedback and problem reports. If you use “Send feedback” or “Report a problem”, the extension sends your message, a rating if you gave one, an email address only if you type one, and the extension and Chrome versions. Nothing is sent until you press Send.
This data is processed by PostHog on its EU servers under PostHog’s privacy policy. It is not sold.
This website
This website uses no advertising trackers, cookies, or browser storage of its own, and loads no external fonts. It loads its page content and assets from the website host.
Visit statistics (cookieless). The website measures visits with a
small script of its own and sends anonymous events to PostHog (EU cloud) through
this website’s own address. Nothing is stored in your browser, so you cannot be
recognised on a later visit. PostHog tells visits apart on its server using a
daily-changing code made from connection details, and anonymises IP addresses. The
events record things such as the page viewed, sections reached, buttons and links
clicked, how long the page was open, the site you came from, any
utm_ campaign tags in the address, and your browser and device type.
They never include what you type. The script does nothing if your browser sends Do
Not Track or Global Privacy Control.
Early-access form. If you submit the form, your name, email, the optional phone number and the optional feature you chose are sent to PostHog (EU cloud) and read only by the developer. They are used to contact you about early access and are not sold or shared. Ask to have them deleted any time through the Support page. The data is processed by PostHog under its privacy policy.
The hosting provider may process normal connection information, such as your IP address and request logs, to serve and secure the website. That processing is covered by the hosting provider’s privacy policy. It does not give the website access to recordings saved inside the extension.
Support and contributions
If you contact the developer by email, the developer receives the information you choose to share. It is used to respond to your request or investigate a problem. Avoid sending sensitive recordings unless you intentionally choose to share them.
If you use the coffee link, you leave this website for a third-party service. That service processes payment and account information under its own policies and may share contributor details with the developer according to your choices and its settings. The extension does not handle your payment-card details.
The extension does not sell recording data or transmit it to third parties.
